What is equity?
The word equity comes from the Latin aequitas. This term is associated with the values of equality and justice.
Equity attempts to promote equality, beyond differences in sex, culture, economic sectors to which one belongs, etc. That is why it is usually related to social justice, since it defends the same conditions and opportunities for all people, without distinction, only adapting in particular cases.
That is to say, for equity to be real, the rule cannot be applied in general to all individuals, but certain exceptions must be observed for each particular case. Furthermore, each person must be able to assert their rights, regardless of where they come from.
Equity fights against poverty, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, among other issues that promote distance and differences between individuals.
Gender equality
When we talk about gender equity, we refer to equality and justice, in which people, regardless of their sex, can assert their rights and have the same opportunities and responsibilities. Some cases where the lack of gender equality is evident are discrimination when looking for a job or violence against women.
Although it is recognized that there are differences between women and men, it does not mean that one of the sexes is inferior or superior to the other, which is why they must have the same means and capabilities when it comes to functioning in work and family life. , political and social.
Social equity
When talking about social equity policies, reference is made to health issues, that is, making it affordable for all inhabitants of a state. The same in the field of education, that everyone who wants it has the opportunity to access the three levels of education.
Likewise, equal employment opportunities must be added to these policies, which are also decent positions. Living conditions are also basic, and not only refer to good housing, but also access to drinking water, electricity, sewage networks, etc.
Many other policies aimed at social equity can be mentioned, but one of its main objectives is to achieve greater inclusion of all people in a given state and raise their standard of living, until achieving true social well-being.

Equity in Law and Economics
Within the Science of Law the value of equity acquires great importance. Although it does not respond to one of the sources of Law, it is usually used as a means or technique to correct the law. This tool allows the standard to be adapted to the particular needs of each case. That is to say, the law applies according to certain circumstances.
That is why it is considered one of the essential values of Law, since it has a more human position, if you will, since certain considerations are taken into account. It should be noted that this is a highly discussed position since the time of Aristotle.
From the Economic Sciences, equity is spoken of as the justice that should be applied to the treatment of people’s taxes. This means that tax burdens must vary according to each particular case to truly achieve equity.
